FAQ
What is a Volunteer?
A volunteer is a person who willingly contributes their time, skills, knowledge, and effort to support a social, humanitarian, environmental, or human rights cause without expecting personal financial gain. A volunteer works with dedication, integrity, discipline, and respect for others and helps create positive change in society.
What are the Competencies of a Good Volunteer?
A good volunteer should have strong communication skills, empathy, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving ability, time management, accountability, and respect for diversity. A volunteer should also understand confidentiality, ethical conduct, human rights principles, safeguarding, and non-discrimination. Most importantly, a volunteer should be reliable, responsible, compassionate, and willing to learn.
Why do you want to become a Volunteer?
I want to become a volunteer because I believe that every person deserves dignity, equality, justice, and respect. I want to use my time, knowledge, and skills to support vulnerable and disadvantaged people and contribute to meaningful community development. Through volunteering, I hope to learn, serve humanity, raise awareness, and work together with others to promote a more peaceful, inclusive, and rights-respecting society.
What is a Human Rights Activist?
A human rights activist is a person who works peacefully to promote and protect the rights and dignity of individuals and communities. A human rights activist may raise awareness, document concerns, support vulnerable people, conduct educational activities, advocate for equality and justice, and encourage respect for internationally recognized human rights. Human rights activism should be based on non-violence, impartiality, evidence, ethical conduct, and respect for the rights of others.
What is Human Rights Advocacy?
Human rights advocacy is the process of promoting awareness, dialogue, policies, practices, and actions that protect and advance human rights. It may include public awareness campaigns, community education, research, policy dialogue, stakeholder engagement, peaceful campaigning, and communication with relevant institutions. Effective advocacy is evidence-based, respectful, inclusive, non-discriminatory, and focused on achieving positive and sustainable change while respecting the rights and dignity of all people.
